The Resurrection Power In Us

Updated: May 23, 2020

Today marks the day that Jesus rose from the dead and I want to talk about the resurrection power that God rose Him with- the same power that resides in us. (Romans 8:11)

Firstly, I will like to give a backstory Jesus and His death.

In the beginning, there was Adam and Eve. Under the influence of the devil, they had eaten from the Tree of Life and Death though God had instructed them not to, thus sinning. In Adam sinning, his spirit died cutting off both his and man’s connection with God. Adam had been given the ‘keys’ to the earth (Genesis 1:29) and when he listened to the to the devil, he handed them over to him and from that point - man lived a life of sin and subjection. The only way God could reverse this was through a sacrifice (required to wash away sin), and being a God of justice, He did this in a way that would not harm the devil as that would be unfair:

JESUS CHRIST

Jesus bore the sin and sickness of man and through his death, it was destroyed. Just as Jesus was made a new creature, so was the nature of man. As mentioned before, the resurrection power of God raised Jesus up on the third day, but this power doesn’t stop there. The Holy Spirit, which is the resurrection power, lives in us!

So why is this Resurrection Power important?

Revelations 5:2 says, “Worthy is the Lamb that was slain to receive power, and riches, and wisdom, and strength, and honour, and glory, and blessing

As a child of God, God has given us these inheritances through the death of Jesus and these are able to manifest in our lives through engaging with the Holy Spirit- the resurrection power. Mind you, this inheritance is not subjected to one’s status or their ‘self-valued’ worth: we have something and someone that is powerful regardless of anything. Whether we acknowledge it or not, this is OURS.

A quick analogy:

Let’s say for example I hug you and slip £50 in your pocket. Let’s say now that you are hungry, but do not have money, or at least don’t know that I gave you money, and so you go the whole day without food. Does you not knowing of the money or not spending it change the fact that you had this £50 in your pocket?

From the millisecond you give your life to Christ to *forever*, glory, power, strength, blessings, wisdom, honour and riches are all yours.

Many people do not recognise they have the resurrection power within them and that is the issue. Through the Holy Spirit, this power, we are able to speak things into existence. We are able to change a failing academic life into one that is excelling through engaging with this power and the Word. In the same vein, when we don’t ask the Holy Spirit for things, we miss out on our inheritance. John 14:26 says, “But the Helper, the Holy Spirit...will teach you all things. And He will help you remember everything that I have told you”- going back to my previous blog on Christianity being ‘easy’ this is a reason why. We are not alone and have the tools to change our life from one of subjection to peace and dominion.

I think one of the reasons why it is hard to believe that we have the same power as Jesus, in which some people even say it is blasphemous, is because we do not see the ‘man’ Jesus as truly a man. Being God’s son, we assume that Jesus was some sort of magician but in reality, he wasn’t. He had a destiny just like we do and you will find that Jesus did not start performing miracles until He keyed into the Word of God. Just like Jesus’ 12 disciples: they activated the resurrection power through their faith and understanding JUST like Jesus.

Walking to the cross, Jesus was whipped, spat on, abused and humiliated. The whip they used on him wasn’t any ordinary whip, oh nooooo, it was one that had nails connected to it, and with every hit, the Romans pulled it back into his flesh. To nail Jesus’ body on the cross, they had to stretch His limbs, so there He laid- dying and broken. Also, I learnt that Jesus had died due to asphyxiation from not being able to keep his neck up due to weakness.

ALL OF THAT for us to live a life of mediocrity? NOOOO WAYYYY. IMAGINE. A WHOLE crucifixion? If you don’t want to do it for yourself, we owe it to HIM to be the greatness Jesus was slain for.

POWER, RICHES, WISDOM, STRENGTH, HONOUR, GLORY AND BLESSINGS.

Happy Easter and God bless.
