Have you ever been in a situation where you've asked and asked God for something in belief that you've 'ticked all the right boxes' and not gotten what you want? You've prayed, you've tithed, you've praised, you have faith, you've done it all and still...nothing??
Well in those cases we need to not accept it as being God's will, but rather ask why?
What am I missing?
Sometimes we don't get what we want, simply because we are not ready for it.
Not in the sense of time but rather capacity: we have not developed ourselves enough to have the capacity to handle what we want.
In my church, my pastor gave an analogy:
Let's say for example, a man asks for divine power to heal people by the power of his hands and have all that he says and declares. However, this man struggles with uncontrollable rage and an untamed tongue, so, let's say for example he is on the road one day and lashes out at someone declaring them mad, if he had that divine power he asked for, he would have doomed someone to madness.
Sometimes God is ready, 'standing over our head', ready to shower His blessings upon us and there's no issue of God's timing, but we are simply not ready.
The Bible in 1 Timothy 2:21 (ESV), says: "if anyone cleanses himself from what is dishonourable ...he will be a vessel for honourable use...useful to the master of the house, for every good work"
- It is when we make ourselves ready and acceptable that God's inheritances and blessings for us can be manifested.
After all, "fruit is good, but an unripe fruit can be poisonous"
- When I heard that I was like hmmmmmmmmm *clicks fingers*
God's blessings are good for us, but when it is given too early, when we are not ready, it will no longer stand as a blessing.
So what needs to happen now?
- This is an area I am still learning things in, as you are, but there are many things I have read and heard that have given me a degree of understanding:
1. I once heard TD Jakes say something along the lines, "when God wants to bless you, He will manoeuvre you"
- This being said, sometimes we are not ready for our blessings because we don't want to move: we don't want to sacrifice what is comfortable, because with movement there is change and with change we perceive there to be a lack of control
- But you need to understand that if God truly knows what's best for you, you should surrender your anxieties and feelings of discomfort to God and go where He leads you
- It's just like waiting in the queue of a fast-food restaurant, if you do not move forward to receive your food, you will be left empty-handed
2. We need to address our character
- Sometimes our character and behavioural patterns are incompatible with God's destiny for us, and we simply cannot progress until we change this
- Going back to the analogy of the guy with the uncontrollable anger, if we have faults in our character, God' blessings for us will not and cannot manifest in the way it has been planned to
How do I know if I have to change my character?
- The first way to assess this is by asking others: if you find that around 2 or maybe more people have said something about you that is negative, it is most likely a characteristic of you and not an action in the moment, which you can use as a starting point to address your incompatible traits
- Also, look into the Word. The Word is the reflection of who we are, and who we ought to be, and it is also God's wisdom. If you find that your actions and thoughts are not in line with the Word, then that is also a signification of change that needs to take place. Do you walk in love, do you have am tamed tongue, are your words like honey, healing to bones?
IF NOT, FIX UPPPPPP
3. Another thing just came to me as I was writing (thanks God) and that is seeking wisdom. Wisdom s not the capacity to know many things but rather knowing what to do with the knowledge we have. That being said, maybe God has not released His blessings onto you, because you don't know how to use it.
- You cannot go about applying a spiritual thing with worldly manners, it will not work. God's blessings are spiritual and though they are manifested in the physical, you need to also treat it spiritually.
- You can't go to an IKEA store and expect to be able to an assemble a table using instructions from Costco, it aint making heny senseeeeee bro
- AND THE WAY TO GET THIS WISDOM IS THROUGH THE WORD: I read in Isaiah 48:17 this morning that God guides us and we can only get through His own words to make the most of His blessings and not receive it in vain
4. Finally, if God blessed you, would you leave him? There are many times that people have asked for blessings like money and once they got it, they never stepped foot in a church again. If God cannot trust you with a simple £50, how can he do that with £1 milli? You need to show Him that in spite of what you don't and do get, you will always be with Him. Your heart needs to be in the right place
And I pray God gives you the grace to ready yourself for his life-changing, never-ending, ear-tingling, awe-inspiring, torrential shower of blessings, indeed
(Sorry it's choppy, I will have much more time after exams to expand points, hashtag sacrificed Love Island for this, lol)
